Our Story

A Legacy of Discovery

Our story began in the early 1980s, when Dr. Peter Molan at the University of Waikato began unlocking the powerful antibacterial and antioxidant properties of Manuka honey.

At the same time, Denis Watson — a high school science educator and founder of what would become ManukaMed — joined forces with Dr. Molan to help bring this natural science into real-world applications. With the support of Watson & Son (now ManukaMed), their collaboration sparked a series of medical breakthroughs, global patents, and new hope for natural healing.

From treating wounds to protecting the heart, this work laid the foundation for something bigger.

One university-led study explored what would happen if peptides derived from Manuka honey were given to cloned mice with genetic heart disease. The result?
